Welcome to the Turnbull lab, where we pursue research into broad aspects of insect and virus physiology.

The Turnbull lab is located at Clemson University, in upstate South Carolina. Our interests integrate Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Entomology, as well as Environmental Sciences, and so our members represent those academic programs and more.

We are broadly interested in the physiology, functional and evolutionary, of insects and their biological interactions. Historically, members of the lab have focused investigations on the intersection between polydnavirus and gap junction biology - namely, an example of virus homologue of host genes (Innexins). More recently, while continuing this work as a model for evolution of polydnaviruses, we have begun investigating bioelectric phenomena as they relate to insect physiology.
